Late As Usual

So, I was actually going to post a Halloween puzzle, but of course, I started way too late. I’ve started two, but I expect it will be Christmas before they’re both finished 🙂

I started what must be the ultimate Halloween puzzle yesterday here in Dortmund:

Loup’s Castle of Horrors. I’m expecting this to be one of my favourite Loup puzzles of all time.

Back in Helsinki, I started working on a mystery puzzle with a similar theme. Here’s a little spoiler from that:

I love the hat 🙂

Happy Halloween!

Handsome Hearts, 2019-10-29

I finally got around to finishing the puzzle that my Roomba knocked over. It was actually very enjoyable. If my usual refrain is “This was much harder than I expected”, this was the opposite, quite easy, really. Even though it’s all red, there are different shades and also, the texture of the background varies. In fact, I didn’t look at the box at all while doing this, mainly because I was too lazy to get up and get it. I wasn’t even sure if it was portrait or landscape, I started sooo long ago.

Once again a puzzle I probably wouldn’t have picked out myself, but I got it in a big bag of 500-piece puzzles, and I loved it. In fact, I’ve loved every puzzle I’ve pulled out of that bag, and I’ve been doing the ones I didn’t expect to like first 🙂

I’ve done the yellow puzzle in this series, and I still have the blue one to go.

Rosina Wachtmeister’s paintings almost always include cats, and this is no exception. It was much harder than it looks, but looking at the image now I still can’t work out why 🙂

Venice, 2018-09-20

Great puzzle with many fun details! Venice has wanted to ban large cruise ships in the Venice lagoon for years for the damage they do, but it is, of course, difficult, because they obviously bring a lot of money.  Here, it seems one ship is turned away.

I was on a cruise from Venice once, it was in December 2010, and when we returned, it snowed. The Piazza San Marco in the snow was, perhaps, even more beautiful than usual, but I do understand the need to move cruise ships further away from the historic town.

Thank You!, 2019-10-03

You may remember that Heye’s first cartoon artist, Mordillo, died at the end of June, aged 86. Heye has now brought out a memorial puzzle.

The date on the bag was 30.8., and I got this from my local puzzle store at the end of September. That’s pretty fast for a puzzle! Also, it’s made in Germany, although Heye moved production to eastern Europe years ago.

It’s a lovely puzzle and a great tribute to Mordillo. Definitely a keeper.

The pink shoes and the red nose came first, and the green background last.

Hearts of Gold, 2019-09-24

I loved this, it was great from start to finish! It was also quite easy to pick out the pieces for the different hearts. My favourite is the black and yellow, of course. I’m definitely keeping this to do again later.

I got this from a large flea market in Hämeenlinna, where you can rent a table and put up your stuff, but you don’t have to stand there yourself, they have a  joint cashier where customers pay. This place is huge, so I can’t say for certain that it was exactly the same table, but I’ve picked up quite a few puzzles on different trips in the same area, and I think it’s the same seller. The puzzles are always in good condition, and the pieces are in a ziplock bag in the box. Too bad it’s 100 km from where I live. Then again, on second thought, perhaps it’s just as well 🙂
