Crazy Cake, 2023-12-26

My second Cherry Pazzi puzzle. The fit is still excellent, and the cut is nice and precise (no false fits), but unfortunately, all the pieces have the basic shape with two tabs opposite. Too bad, but it was still an enjoyable puzzle.

Heye Catalog for 2024

Heye has published their catalog for 2024! There will be two new Zozoville puzzles, I will probably get those, and there’s a new series called Future Cities that I quite like:

I will definitely get the new Any Kehoe Inner Mystic puzzle, and the new Marino Degano:

No new Funky Zoo puzzles, sadly, and not much that interests me in the comics department. I wish they’d do more re-releases of old Degano and Jabo images, there are so many puzzles that I’ve missed…

Let’s Visit Santa!, 2023-12-24

Not my kind of image, and that’s putting it mildly. I’m glad to finally have this done, it’s been sitting in my pile for a few years. Even though I don’t like the image, it was actually nice enough to do.

Let’s Visit Santa!, Ravensburger, 1000 pieces. Completed on December 24, 2023.

I did like the penguins, though.

Gelini’s Christmas Bakery, 2023-12-22

This was one Christmas puzzle I really enjoyed (I’m not usually a fan). Not surprising, since I like pretty much anything kitchen-related as a puzzle image. I started with the Gelinis (except for the grey one, those pieces were impossible to pick out) and then started filling in the rest. Moderately challenging and great fun.

Merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates it!

London Cafe, 2023-12-16

Pieces&Peace is a new brand to me, and I usually don’t get puzzles of more than 1000 pieces from unknown brands, but I really liked the image and made an exception. The quality turned out to be fine, but no more than that. There was a grid cut with a good mix of piece shapes, but I did have some false fits, unfortunately. Otherwise, everyting was good.

On the box, it also says Alizé Group, and the puzzle is made in France. I though Alizé Group sounded familiar, and googled it. According to this, they also distribute Grafika and Bluebird puzzles, and have recently invested in a major production site in Behren-lès-Forbach (very close to the German border, as it happens), and the production of these brands, previously often oursourced to Turkish and Polish firms, will move to France. Interesting! I had a look at the last Bluebird puzzles that I bought, but that was back in early 2022, and they were still made in Turkey or Poland, but clearly, they have the French production running by now, if this puzzle is anything to go by.

One thing that I really enjoyed was that the box was just big enough to hold the pieces – no more than that.

Fun in the Sun, 2023-12-11

Vintage cars are always fun, and I also enjoyed the summery aspect of this image. The weather in Germany (where I was when I completed this) was vile, and this was a nice diversion. Loved it!

Colour Frenzy, 2023-11-29

JaCaRou was a new brand to me, and it turned out to be excellent. A grid cut with a good mix of piece shapes and very distinctive pieces, and just tight enough that you can easily move sections around, but not so tight it’s a pain to take apart. Since it’s a Canadian brand, the puzzles are quite expensive in Europe, but the quality is so good that this won’t be my last JaCaRou, although I won’t be able to buy that many of them.

The image was a bit more challenging than I had anticipated, but with such a good quality puzzle it was truly a joy to do. Loved it!

Fairytale Fantasia, 2023-11-26

This was, perhaps, the least entertaining Aimee Stewart puzzle I’ve ever done. The puzzle itself is fine, of course, I just wasn’t feeling it, especially in the beginning. It happens sometimes.

Craft Beer Bonanza, 2023-11-13

This puzzle was just as much fun as looks!

Craft Beer Bonanza, Ravensburger, 1500 pieces. Completed on November 13, 2023.

There was not a singe brand that I recognized, and I’m pretty sure none of these beers actually exist.

There’s a bird throwing someting at the mirror, and my first thought was that the projectiles – one has landed in a beer glass here – were lemons. Then I saw that another looked like it was melting on the counter, so I suppose it has to be ice cubes, but who would put ice cubes in beer? I certainly hope they’re not eggs 🙂
