Puzzler’s Place, 2023-01-26

Another 750-piece puzzle with large pieces. This is a room that I would definitely feel right at home in, and I loved it as a puzzle. I recognize the puzzle on the table, it’s an actual Ravensburger puzzle with a greenhouse. I haven’t done it, although I remember it was a 500-piece puzzle, but the puzzle in the image has 1000 pieces.

For my puzzle challenge, this is #24, a puzzle that fits at least three points (my hobby, a book, and large pieces).

Puzzler’s Place, Ravensburger, 750 pieces. Completed on January 26, 2023.

Ludicrous Lighthouse, 2023-01-23

I’m already certain this will be one of my favourite puzzles of the year. There were lots of funny details and non-standard shaped pieces, and I loved doing a non-rectangular puzzle for a change. For the puzzle challenge I’m doing, this is #15, “a lighthouse”.

Ludicrous Lighthouse by Colin Thompson, Ravensburger, 995 pieces. Completed on January 23, 2023.

There were some great whimsies:

An octopus that likes ice cream!

There were lots of these pink little guys all over the puzzle.

The top. The birds all have little crowns, making them king fishers, I suppose.

Fantasia, 2023-01-21

An image from the 1940 Disney movie Fantasia. It was easier than I expected, but I would not like to do it as a 4000 piece puzzle in the Disney 40K monster. I bought this because I remember being fascinated by the bewitched brooms as a child, and that makes it #11 in the puzzle challenge I’m doing, “a puzzle that reminds you of your childhood / youth”.

Fantasia, Ravensburger, 1000 pieces. Completed on January 21, 2023.

Corner Bakery, 2023-01-20

This was a lovely puzzle, with my one of my favourite type of image: cakes and pastries. For the puzzle challenge I’m doing, this is #10, “a puzzle with large pieces”. The pieces were twice as big as normal, and the finished puzzle is 80 x 60 cm. I’ll probably be keeping this to do again.

Corner Bakery, Ravensburger, 750 pieces. Completed on January 20, 2023.

The “pie chart” was my favourite part of the puzzle, but all of it was great, really.

Satyrs, 2023-01-19

This puzzle was originally released in 2011, but I missed it then. Six years later I managed to find a copy on Amazon. That makes this #23 in the puzzle challenge I’m doing, “a puzzle long searched for”. They probably didn’t make many if these, it seems to be quite rare.

Satyrs by Giuseppe Calligaro, Heye, 1000 pieces. Completed on January 19, 2023.

Satyrs are creatures in Greek mythology. They were companions of Dionysus, and the image here is of a big party.

The band:

There’s not only a black sheep, but also a wolf in sheep’s clothing:

Those are stamps, right? Not sure why a satyr would think stamps are the key to seduction, but then they weren’t very smart 🙂

Crazy Europe, 2023-01-15

I’m back in Dortmund for three weeks. When I’ve been away for a while, I almost feel like I’m getting new puzzles just because I can access my Dortmund stash 🙂 By the way, I now own the flat I’ve rented for five years. The owners wanted to sell, and I did not feel like moving. It was quite a long process (not because I’m from Finland, it just is a long process in Germany). It took four months from signing the contract until everything was finished. In Finland, selling a flat usually takes about 20 minutes, it’s one meeting in a bank.

Anyway, the puzzle. I’m not a fan of King, the pieces are thin, and it’s easy to place pieces wrong. I no longer buy King puzzles, but I still have a set of five puzzles with some nice vintage-type images to do. This was a gift from a friend, which means it is #5, a puzzle chosen for you by someone else, in the puzzle challenge I’m doing.

Crazy Europe, King, 1000 pieces. Completed on January 15, 2023.

Ciao Bambino!, 2023-01-13

This is an older Heye, it says 1988 on the box. I like these old Loup images, they’re less busy than the newer ones. The Heye cut, however, is much better now. I’m not usually one to complain about loose cuts, but this could barely be called interlocking, it was so loose. Another thing that detracted from the enjoyment was that the previous owner was obviously a heavy smoker. As it happened, this was the last puzzle that I completed before a trip to Dortmund, so I’ve left it out on the table, hoping that a good airing will help with the smell of cigarettes.

Ciao Bambino! by Loup, Heye, 500 pieces. Completed on January 13, 2023.

Circle of Colors: Desserts, 2022-01-12

This was a lovely little snack, I did it more or less in one sitting. Somehow, I always find painted cakes even more appealing in puzzles than photographs of actual cakes. This will be #26, a round puzzle, in the puzzle challenge I’m doing.

Circle of Colors: Desserts, Ravensburger, 500 pieces. Completed on January 12, 2023.
