Junk Food, 2025-04-14

Another installment in the Zozoville series. This was great fun, as usual, although the yellow background wasn’t all that easy. I did most of the monster almost in one sitting, then I did the edges. Filling in the background was, of course, the slowest part.

For the puzzle challenge, this will be #30, a puzzle published in 2025.

Unicorn, 2025-04-10

Nice little puzzle, with one extra piece. The bonus monthly challenge for April was about spring, but I don’t seem to have any puzzles with spring images, so I did this instead. In the north, the amount of light varies a lot, from having having very little daylight (or none, if you go further up north) in the winter, to very long days in the summer. When the light increases during spring, this often causes people to become a bit euphoric, which is why I thought this puzzle would fit 🙂

[Fish Market], 2025-04-07

As usual with Peliko puzzles, there is no title, but the image by Mauri Kunnas seems to show a fish market in olden times. It’s probably taken from one of his children’s books. Peliko is unfortunately not a good brand (many false fits), and I had to look at the image a lot while doing this.

[Fish Market] by Mauri Kunnas, Peliko, 1000 pieces. Completed on April 7, 2025.

For the puzzle challenge, this is #5, a puzzle that I no longer understand why I bought (because of the bad quality and the busy image). There were some fun details, though, like the familiar duck under the bridge:

Vacation Mickey, 2025-03-29

Despite the border I did the edges first with this one. The colours are a bit muted, and the puzzle was more difficult than I was expecting.

Vacation Mickey, Ravensburger, 1000 pieces. Completed on March 29, 2025.

For the puzzle challenge, this is #1, a selfie. I actually thought I wouldn’t find a selfie among my puzzles, and I was thinking of getting a puzzle with a self portrait by Frida Kahlo, but then I saw a photo of this puzzle on FB and realized that I have it, and that right in the middle they are taking a selfie.

Paradise Sunset,

This was my first Vermont Christmas Company puzzle, and I’m afraid I wasn’t impressed with the quality. There were a few false fits, but the worst problem was how loose the fit was and that pieces wouldn’t stay together. I must have done the bottom edge at least three times. I have no idea if this is typical of the Vermont Christmas Company, and I’m unlikely to find out as the puzzles are not available in Europe – this was lent to me by a friend who got it in the USA.

The image was more entertaining than I was expecting. I thought all the vegetation might be difficult, but it was easy to distinguish different types of vegetation, and there wasn’t much left of the palms after all sky pieces had been placed, so it ended up being pretty easy. One piece missing, although it’s hard to spot (in the second palm from the left).

For the puzzle challenge this is #23, a loaned puzzle.

Great Wave off Kanagawa, 2025-03-22

I really like this painting, and it was nice to do as a puzzle, although not all that easy. I think they have added some new extra waves in order to fit the panorama format – all other images I’ve seen only have the large wave in the middle. This puzzle was a Christmas present.

Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai, Eurographics, 1000 pieces. Completed on March 22, 2025.

For the puzzle challenge, this is #25, panorama.
