Not my favourite Titanic puzzle (that would be this), but still very nice.

Not my favourite Titanic puzzle (that would be this), but still very nice.

Cobble Hill has a series of 500-piece puzzles with horoscope signs, and I’ve been wanting to try one for a while now. The pieces are really big, and the finished puzzle is the same size as a 1000 piece puzzle. It was my first 500-piece Cobble Hill, and the quality is as good as with the 1000 piece puzzles. I had always considered 500-piece Cobble Hill puzzles a bit pricey for the piece count, but I didn’t realize that they have XL pieces – I may have to get a few more of these.

Unfortunately, I had already taken this apart when I realized that I had forgotten to take a photo, so you’ll have to take my word for it that I actually finished it. It was every bit as entertaining as it looks, although I managed to lose a piece.

Libraries usually make great puzzle images, and this is no exception. Loved it!

This was not all that easy, but fortunately, the cut was excellent.

There was one rather strange quality issue that I haven’t seen before. The top layer of the cardboard is, apparently, a thin film that makes the finish matte, and it had come loose from some of the pieces:

You can clearly see the difference in colour, the pieces without the thin film are much darker, and the finish is glossy:

I don’t usually make lists of my favourite puzzles of the year, but if I did, this would be very close to the top.

Sorry about the bad photo, but here are some close-ups:

I have all of these movies on DVD. There is one Universal monster missing from the puzzle, Phantom of the Opera (1943), and interestingly enough, it’s also missing from my movie collection. I’ll probably get it at some point, but I’m not a huge fan of the Phantom of the Opera story. I do have the earlier silent movie from 1925, with Lon Chaney.
Anyway, I ususally love movie images, and especially horror movie images, so obviously I loved this. Great puzzle, and I’m definitely keeping this to do again.
This was my second Magnolia puzzle, and the pieces seem thinner than I remember. The cut is still excellent, but for the price I would appreciate the thicker cardboard. Anyway, I love the image, although the dark bits were a bit difficult. I’ve already ordered a few more of Romi Lerda’s Alice-images.

Nice little puzzle!

Not especially exiting, but still an ok puzzle. As you can see, quite few tabs have some lift, and there are some stains. The pieces were also otherwise quite worn, and I decided to throw this puzzle away. It’s rare to see a puzzle in this condition with no missing pieces.

This was No. 7 in the Ravensburger My Haven series, and it was fun and easy, like all puzzles in the series have been.
