Hallstatt, 2024-04-17

This was very enjoyable. I like the way the cosy indoor scene is brought into the very traditional landscape. There are photographic puzzles of this exact view, without the indoor scene, of course. Hallstatt is a town in Austria, known for its salt mines.

Egyptian, 2024-04-08

There is no information about the image on the box, so I don’t know if this is an actual ancient image or something more recent. As a puzzle, it was quite challenging, especially the white background and the hieroglyphs.

Egyptian, Bluebird, 1000 pieces. Completed on April 8, 2024.

Accidents and Emergencies, 2024-04-05

This was reasonably entertaining, although I have to say I’m not really a fan of this artist.

Accidents and Emergencies by François Ruyer, Piatnik, 1000 pieces. Completed on April 5, 2024.

For the puzzle challenge, this will be #1, human anatomy, mostly because of the x-rays:

This was the last item still left on the list for the 2024 puzzle challenge that I’ve now completed. I will probably continue doing the monthly bonus challenges.

Blue Lake, 2024-03-16

A very traditional Alpine landscape. The mountain the background is the Matterhorn, on the border between Switzerland and Italy. As a puzzle, it was enjoyable until I got to the trees. Trees and bushes are perhaps my least favourite things to puzzle, but thankfully, Clementoni is a good brand. For the puzzle challenge, this was #27, a forest.

Blue Lake, Clementoni, 1500 pieces. Completed on March 16, 2024.

Paradise, 2024-02-24

I started this puzzle in Dortmund back in December, but I’ve had very little time here since then (none in January and a few weekends in February), so I’m actually quite surprised to see it finished already.

Paradise by Ryba, Heye, 2000 pieces. Completed on February 24, 2024.

On the left, it’s winter, and the people (all with halos) are doing winter sports and partying, while the on the right, they seem only to be partying.

At the table on the right, I think the man in the top hat is supposed to be Elvis, and the woman with the pink glasses Marilyn Monroe. On one of the trees, someone has carved Marilyn ❤️ Elvis.

There are some other familiar characters as well: poor Donald is about to be eaten by a snow man, but on the winter side, Goofy looks quite happy.

As a puzzle, this was quite challenging, especially the summer half, but there were lots of funny details to keep me entertained. I finished the winter half much earlier, and the last things I did were the two green trees.

I got this in 2017, and currently, the image is available as two separate 1000-piece puzzles (also by Heye).

Fun in the Sun, 2023-12-11

Vintage cars are always fun, and I also enjoyed the summery aspect of this image. The weather in Germany (where I was when I completed this) was vile, and this was a nice diversion. Loved it!

Fun in the Sun, New York Puzzle Company, 1000 pieces. Completed on December 11, 2023.

Fairytale Fantasia, 2023-11-26

This was, perhaps, the least entertaining Aimee Stewart puzzle I’ve ever done. The puzzle itself is fine, of course, I just wasn’t feeling it, especially in the beginning. It happens sometimes.

Fairytale Fantasia by Aimee Stewart, Ravensburger, 1000 pieces. Completed on November 26, 2023.

Forgotten Arcade, 2023-10-28

Another puzzle from the Abandoned series, and probably the most difficult one of the ones I have. It was the last puzzle I completed in Dortmund this time, I am now back in Helsinki with my car (I took a ferry from Travemünde).

The puzzle was rather slow, but still a complete pleasure. At first all the pieces looked so dark, but it wasn’t long before I started to see different shades. I think this would be very difficult to pre-sort, but fortunately, I don’t do that.

Forgotten Arcade by Eduard, Ravensburger, 1000 pieces. Completed on October 28, 2023.

I did the slightly lighter bits, like the popcorn and the clown, early:

At some point, I started to put aside all pieces with text on them, but many were so dark it wasn’t easy to see if there were text or not. Most of the games had names, here we have Truck Monsters, The Wizard of Oz and Hydro Speed.

The creepiest game of all, is, however, nameless:

Loved the puzzle! Also, WordPress reminds me, that it’s the fifth anniversary of my blog.

Squid Game, 2023-10-24

Another Clementoni puzzle with a Netflix series. I haven’t even watched Squid Game, but I thought this would be an entertaining puzzle, and I was right. I started with the green on the left, then the yellow ball and the doll. I was somewhat surprised to find that I did the red overalls last, but that’s how it turned out.

Squid Game, Clementoni, 1000 pieces. Completed on October 24, 2023.

Queen’s Gambit, 2023-10-22

Queen’s Gambit is a Netflix series about a female chess prodigy. Doesn’t sound that interesting put like that, but it’s a brilliant series, and I was happy to see that Clementoni has a few Queen’s Gambit puzzles. This was also a really interesting image for a puzzle. I did the hair and skin first, then I pulled the yellow pieces for the chess pieces. The black dress was last, of course, and I did sort the pieces by shape at that point. Loved it!

Queen’s Gambit, Clementoni, 1000 pieces. Completed on October 22, 2023.
