Golden Solar System, Ravensburger, 500 pieces. Completed on January 8, 2023.
I’m taking part in a puzzle challenge in a Finnish Facebook group, where there are 30 different subject matters or other aspects of puzzles, and we will try to complete a puzzle for every point during 2023. This is for #8 Horoscope.
My first puzzle from Ravensburger’s Nature Edition series, and I found it very enjoyable and relaxing.
Mystic Skies, Ravensburger, 1000 pieces. Completed on November 27, 2022.
I bought the puzzle used, and when I opened it, I thought I would have a pre-sorted puzzle:
It didn’t turn out quite like that, but the bags and trays were some help. One of the trays contained maybe 80 % of the edge pieces, and one of the bags had almost all of the bridge pieces, but otherwise, the bags and trays seemed rather mixed. Anyway, it was some help, and I did this one from top to bottom, starting with the sky and finishing with the bridge.
Very busy image of Amsterdam, with lots of funny details, but pretty difficult. This one was on the table for a full week (it was also a week where I spent most of Wednesday to Sunday at a film festival).
Amsterdam by Frans Le Roux, Ravensburger, 1000 pieces. Completed on November 20, 2022.
Some of the children were wearing crowns, so there’s probably some local holiday going on. Google brought up the opening of parliament in September, Prinsjedag (prince day?), as a possible candidate.
This was my favourite detail in the puzzle! Frans Le Roux gives a nod to fellow Dutch artist Jan van Haasteren, who is known to always include a shark fin in his images. Van Haasteren is, of course, a prolific artist for Jumbo puzzles.
Collage of famous buildings from around the world. Preposterous in its way, but great fun. This was also the tightest Ravensburger fit that I’ve ever had. It was fine while doing the puzzle, but tedious to take apart.
Around the World in 80 Days, Ravensburger, 1000 pieces. Completed on October 28, 2022.
One of the first things I noticed about the image was that there is no Neuschwanstein – but I was wrong:
There it is again, the building that has been called the most popular puzzle subject in the world – it certainly is in Europe.
I was happy to find this Ravensburger Halloween puzzle since most Halloween puzzles I’ve seen lately have been from SunsOut, and I’m not buying any more of those, the fit is just too bad. I recently saw a SunsOut puzzle called A Tight Fit (Father Christmas stuffing a stocking) which I thought was funny, considering how many times I’ve considered using a hammer to get SunsOut pieces into place.
Anyway, this puzzles was, of course, a joy to do. Loved the image with lots of details, and it wasn’t too dark. Happy Halloween!
Halloween Magic, Ravensburger, 1000 pieces. Completed on October 17, 2022.
I’ve returned to Finland from my long stay in Dortmund. I drove to Travemünde, and then took a ferry to Helsinki. It takes about 30 hours, and I have to say, I love the full day at sea. I had a lot to do during those final days in Dortmund, but I did manage to do some puzzling.
This was just as pleasant as it looks. Pretty easy, and of course, great quality as usual from Ravensburger.
Beachfront Getaway, Ravensburger, 1000 pieces. Completed on September 11, 2022.
My second Ravensburger featuring this beautiful Norwegian place (see the first one here). I don’t often do traditional landscapes like this, but when I do, I mostly find them enjoyable. This was nice, although all the blue was a bit tricky, and it wasn’t always possible to tell the sky and the sea apart.
Lofoten, Ravensburger, 1000 pieces. Completed on July 22, 2022.
This was one of the easiest puzzles I’ve done in a long while. Picking out the pieces for the various condiments was easy, and at the end, there were few pieces left with only the dark background colour. Great fun!
Herbs and Spices, Ravensburger, 1000 pieces. Completed on June 24, 2022.
This was great fun, although the lack of easily identifiable sections meant it was slow at first. I didn’t really have a strategy, just spread out the pieces and started putting them together.
The yellow parchment below on the right says “Peace Treaty” – somehow, i don’t think that’s going to last 🙂
Tom & Jerry Hall of Fame, Ravensburger, 1000 pieces. Completed on June 23, 2022.
