Calm Campsite, 2025-01-19

Very enjoyable puzzle. I started with the man-made things, then the sky and the mountain, and last the grass in the foreground. Loved it!

For the puzzle challenge, I originally indended this for No. 11 (recognizable breed of dog, in this case a Flat-Coated Retriever on the jetty), but then I noticed I can use it for No. 24, fits four items. In addition to the dog (No. 11), there is also a mountain (No. 27), a reflection in the lake (No. 3) and a campfire (No. 13).

Hang Loose, 2025-01-12

Nice and easy, I did this in one sitting. Sky first and sand last.

The puzzle challenge I’m doing also has a monthly bonus challenge, and this year, apparently, they are expressed as songs (last year it was emojis / icons). The song for January is by Finnish musician Jukka Poika (whom I had never heard of), and translated the song title means “From cold to warm”. I couldn’t be bothered to listen to it, but had a look at the lyrics, and it’s about a holiday romance where the singer wants to go back to the girl and the warm place, presumably from cold Finland. Anyway, I did this for the monthly challenge.

Coastal Cottage, 2024-09-24

I managed to spill some coke on this puzzle, in the top left corner, which was almost finished, and on some loose pieces. It’s been a really long time since I’ve last ruined a puzzle like this, and if it had to happen, this puzzle was a good choice, since there’s also a piece missing. This one went in the bin, despite being a nice, enjoyable puzzle.

Hello Vinyl, 2024-09-18

This was a lovely throwback to the 70s puzzle, very enjoyable.

Hello Vinyl, Ravensburger, 500 pieces. Completed on September 18, 2024.

The new Ravensburger puzzles have slightly smaller boxes than before. Here you can see the difference in 500 and 1000 piece old and new boxes, with the new box on top:

The difference isn’t all that big, but they’ve also gotten rid of the shrink wrap, and the pieces are now in a paper bag instead of a plastic one.

The Craft Cupboard, 2024-09-16

I usually find the Curious Cupboards series a bit too busy, with such a lot of small details, and while I can’t say this is an exception, I did enjoy it a lot more than I expected to. Guess I was in the right mood for this kind of puzzle.

Songs of Extinct Birds, 2024-09-02

This is one of the new Ravensburgers, with a slightly smaller box and the pieces in a paper bag. There was also some information about the artist, which is nice. I love the image, but it turned out to be a bit quite challenging.

Romeo & Juliet, 2024-08-21

This was my first puzzle from a new Ravensburger series called Art & Soul. There was more information about the artist than usual, and even some words on how to interpret the image – this is the desk of a set designer. The puzzle was fun and fairly easy. The pieces were of normal size (many 750 piece puzzles that I’ve done had XL pieces).

A few words about the packaging: this was my first Ravensburger with a paper bag for the pieces instead of the usual plastic bag. The front of the box didn’t show the whole image, but there was a smaller picture on the back that did. I worked from this smaller image, although there was also an enormous poster. I didn’t even take it out of the box, but it must be the same size as the finished puzzle.
