The Show Must Go On, 2024-10-15

This is an older Heye by Loup, and even though the orchestra is rather difficult, I was again impressed by how each figure has their own unique character. Still, I don’t think I would like to do the 2000-piece version, where there’s a lot more orchestra… I have done the 1000-piece version called Score, where there’s a large scoresheet on top that helps a lot. No photo of that, unfortunately.

The Brightly Coloured Bakery, 2024-10-05

Since painted cakes is one of my all time favourite thing to puzzle, it’s no surprise that I loved this. I also love the Schmidt quality, nowadays it’s every bit as good as Ravensburger, perhaps even better.

The Brightly Coloured Bakery, Schmidt, 1000 pieces. Completed on October 5, 2024.

I’ve been doing less puzzling lately, this was on the table for well over a week, so there will probably be fewer posts in the near future.

Cocktails, 2024-09-26

I’ve done this one before, but this time I had help because we did it at work. As you might expect, the drinks came together really fast, but the final black area on top sat there for several weeks. The lighting wasn’t really good for this kind of puzzle, and there was quite a lot of glare. Anyway, I was happy to see that all the pieces are still there, even though the puzzle has spent many years in the library by now.

Coastal Cottage, 2024-09-24

I managed to spill some coke on this puzzle, in the top left corner, which was almost finished, and on some loose pieces. It’s been a really long time since I’ve last ruined a puzzle like this, and if it had to happen, this puzzle was a good choice, since there’s also a piece missing. This one went in the bin, despite being a nice, enjoyable puzzle.

Hello Vinyl, 2024-09-18

This was a lovely throwback to the 70s puzzle, very enjoyable.

Hello Vinyl, Ravensburger, 500 pieces. Completed on September 18, 2024.

The new Ravensburger puzzles have slightly smaller boxes than before. Here you can see the difference in 500 and 1000 piece old and new boxes, with the new box on top:

The difference isn’t all that big, but they’ve also gotten rid of the shrink wrap, and the pieces are now in a paper bag instead of a plastic one.

The Craft Cupboard, 2024-09-16

I usually find the Curious Cupboards series a bit too busy, with such a lot of small details, and while I can’t say this is an exception, I did enjoy it a lot more than I expected to. Guess I was in the right mood for this kind of puzzle.

Our Special Place in Venice, 2024-09-13

This puzzle came in two bags, and I did not mix the pieces. I started the first bag in June, but I’ve had very little time in Dortmund since then, it’s been about three long weekends, so I’m amazed that it’s already finished. The pieces are really small, and the finished puzzle is sightly smaller than a Ravensburger 2K puzzle.

Our Special Place in Venice, Castorland, 3000 pieces. Completed on September 13, 2024.

There were pauses of several weeks when I was in Helsinki, and I always found the puzzle quite hard to get back into. I would sit before the puzzle unable to place a single piece for quite some time, and then, as soon as I got the first piece in, it seemed easy again, and I was placing pieces left and right. Done in two sections it wasn’t really that difficult. The dark pieces in the bottom right corner were last.
