I love this image. I can never resist painted or real cakes (photos of cakes, however, are often less appealing). It’s an Educa, so I did have some trouble with pieces fitting in the wrong places, but overall I still liked it. Would have been better as a Ravensburger, of course.
Cake Shop, Educa, 1500 pieces. Completed on January 27th, 2018.
So, I’ve had many horrible photos on this blog, but this is quite possibly the worst. I snapped the photo and didn’t look at the result, and by the time I noticed, I’d already taken the puzzle apart. Oh, well. I’m not doing it again to get a better photo, it was quite difficult.
Santorini Lights, Castorland, 1000 pieces. Completed on April 25th, 2018.
This was mostly enjoyable, although the old Educa problem of pieces fitting where they don’t belong was definitely present. The image is great, though! I also managed to lose one piece (at the far end of the table).
The Bakery, Educa, 3000 pieces. Completed on July 11th, 2018.
This was my first Galison puzzle, and I loved it! The grid cut is boring, with only two-tabs-opposite pieces, but it doesn’t matter with a 500 piece puzzle, especially with a great image like this.
Summer at the Amusement Park, Galison, 500 pieces. Completed on August 18th, 2018.
I don’t usually get Falcon puzzles, I once had a horrible experience with a 3000-piece puzzle where any piece would fit anywhere, but this was a gift. It ended up being quite enjoyable, although I could tell that with another image it could have been quite hard. Falcon belongs on the list of brands that I only get if there are no large areas of one colour.
The Whitesmith’s Cottage by Dominic Davison, Falcon, 1000 pieces. Completed on September 9th, 2018.
A great puzzle with a cruise ship by Swedish artist Anders Lyon. Since the artist is Swedish, it is practically certain that this is partly modelled on the ships that sail between Stockholm and Helsinki every night. It would be difficult to find a Finn who was never on one of these, and they’re popular in Sweden as well. In fact, there was a very popular Swedish drama series set on one such ship in the 90s. The ship in the puzzle is called the M/S Scandalia, and it’s flying the Swedish flag 🙂
Today, I’ll be boarding a ship called M/S Gabriella, and tomorrow me and my car will be back in Helsinki. Notice the cars on the lower levels on Scandalia 🙂
Cruise by Anders Lyon, Heye, 1500 pieces. Completed on January 16, 2018.I used a tablet stand to keep the image upright (the image is cut from the box, I don’t keep triangular boxes). The cinema is showing a Robin Hood movie. The text on the doctor’s wall reads “If you can read this you can see pretty well and don’t have to get new glasses” in Swedish. There is also a Finnish sauna.
I loved this puzzle, and look forward to more Anders Lyon images.
