Colosseo (Roma), 2022-03-28

My second puzzle of the Colosseum in Rome, I think, and I still one in my to-do pile. Not an exciting image, but it was an entertaining puzzle nonetheless. I did the sky first (not really hard, the Clementoni cut is excellent), and the dark trees last.

Chupa Chups, 2022-03-27

This was a lovely puzzle, even though lollipops aren’t really my favourite kind of candy. Vintage ads are always fun!

This one with the old TV is my favourite:

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a vending machine just for lollipops 🙂

Towards the Captain’s Table, 2022-03-26

I finished it! Most of the time I prefer to do much easier puzzles, but I actually really enjoyed this. While the large majority of pieces were of the basic two tabs opposite-type, the actual cut was distinct enough to be a big help. There were tabs and holes of all sizes and shapes, and if there hadn’t been, this puzzle would not have been very enjoyable, brute-forcing 700 pieces isn’t much fun. Also, the pieces only fit where they belong, and many times I didn’t even need two points of contact. Of course, I was also prepared for it to be pretty slow, but still I was surprised how much I enjoyed this. There was a lot of fist-pumping and triumphant shouts while I was doing it 🙂 Next, I’m definitely going to do something easy and colourful!

The Lord Sleeps, 2022-03-21

Back to the Kaj Stenvall puzzles. I only noticed that there are two ducks in the bed when I started on the puzzle – the smaller one has no pillow, so I expect the bigger duck is the lord.

The puzzle is one of the better quality Tactics, and there was enough variations in colour to make it reasonably easy. I bought it second hand, and it has clearly been assembled a few times, there was a bit of lift, but I was happy to find all pieces present.

The Gardener’s Palette, 2022-03-13

This was lovely, even though I’m no gardener, and couldn’t recognize more than a handful of the plants. I started with the green bits, then yellow, and the rest more or less from light to dark, so that the bottom right corner was last.

I finally remembered to put my mascot in the image – it’s always there, but for some reason, usually missing from the final photos. I still haven’t found a puzzle mascot for Helsinki, but I’m keeping my eyes open.

Upstairs and Downstairs, 2022-03-12

This was the worst kind of Sunsout, which means you had to practically hammer the pieces into place, and nothing seemed to fit, making it difficult to know where the pieces belong. The image is great, of course, but it was mostly a frustrating experience. I only have one more Sunsout in my stash, and I don’t think I’ll be getting anymore. In fact, I increasingly browse for puzzles by brand when I shop, so that I’m not tempted by great images of inferior quality.

Who Sat Down First?, 2022-03-11

Images by Susan Brabeau make great puzzles, but unfortunately, most of them seem to be by Sunsout. That said, this wasn’t too bad, the fit wasn’t great, but it wasn’t bad either. All in all, this was really enjoyable.

I love the sign on the wall above the ladies:

Love Time, 2022-03-11

Funny old Heye from 1987, where a farmer has failed to check the field for lovers before harvesting. There were two pieces missing, which was no surprise, the box was falling apart, and while the pieces were in a plastic bag, the bag was open. It would have been a miracle if all the pieces had been there. It was still fun to do, and the pieces that were there were in excellent condition.

Zozoville: Selfie, 2022-03-09

I am back in Dortmund for a week (there’s a game on Sunday), but before I left, I finished another adorable monster from the Zozoville series. I was expecting the fur to be really difficult, but it wasn’t too bad. In fact, this was very enjoyable from start to finish, not least because of the great quality.
