Superhero Movie, 2025-05-08

Very entertaining cartoon style puzzle where a movie is being shot.

Superhero Movie by Doro Göbel & Peter Knorr, Heye, 2000 pieces. Completed on May 8, 2025.

The hero is apparently called Lizzard Girl.

There was a bit of a snafu with the cut, the right edge was far too thin, and the left edge too broad.

Part of the right edge:

Part of the left edge:

You can see that the left edge doesn’t lie flat, because the cut is quite rough. It was only the left edge though, the rest of the puzzle was fine.

For the puzzle challenge, this is #20, (Cartoon) Hero.

The Ski-Boy, 2025-04-30

This is another puzzle from Tactic’s Come to Finland series. The quality was pretty bad, like it often is with Tactic, the pieces were thin, and many tabs had some lift despite this being a new puzzle. You can see the damage especially in the white area. I really like the image though, and the gradient sky.

The Ski-Boy, Tactic, 1000 pieces. Completed on April 30, 2025.

For the puzzle challenge, this is #8, winter sport.

Mysterious Castle Library, 2025-04-19

Another installment in the Ravensburger Lost Places series. I think I have all of these 🙂 It was a nice a puzzle, although I fail to see what’s so mysterious about the library. For the puzzle challenge, this will be #18, a library or a book case.

Mysterious Castle Library, Ravensburger, 1000 pieces. Completed on April 19, 2025.

Junk Food, 2025-04-14

Another installment in the Zozoville series. This was great fun, as usual, although the yellow background wasn’t all that easy. I did most of the monster almost in one sitting, then I did the edges. Filling in the background was, of course, the slowest part.

Junk Food, Heye, 1000 pieces. Completed on April 14, 2025.

For the puzzle challenge, this will be #30, a puzzle published in 2025.

Unicorn, 2025-04-10

Nice little puzzle, with one extra piece. The bonus monthly challenge for April was about spring, but I don’t seem to have any puzzles with spring images, so I did this instead. In the north, the amount of light varies a lot, from having having very little daylight (or none, if you go further up north) in the winter, to very long days in the summer. When the light increases during spring, this often causes people to become a bit euphoric, which is why I thought this puzzle would fit 🙂

Unicorn, Clementoni, 500 palaa. Completed on April 10, 2025.

[Fish Market], 2025-04-07

As usual with Peliko puzzles, there is no title, but the image by Mauri Kunnas seems to show a fish market in olden times. It’s probably taken from one of his children’s books. Peliko is unfortunately not a good brand (many false fits), and I had to look at the image a lot while doing this.

[Fish Market] by Mauri Kunnas, Peliko, 1000 pieces. Completed on April 7, 2025.

For the puzzle challenge, this is #5, a puzzle that I no longer understand why I bought (because of the bad quality and the busy image). There were some fun details, though, like the familiar duck under the bridge:

Vacation Mickey, 2025-03-29

Despite the border I did the edges first with this one. The colours are a bit muted, and the puzzle was more difficult than I was expecting.

Vacation Mickey, Ravensburger, 1000 pieces. Completed on March 29, 2025.

For the puzzle challenge, this is #1, a selfie. I actually thought I wouldn’t find a selfie among my puzzles, and I was thinking of getting a puzzle with a self portrait by Frida Kahlo, but then I saw a photo of this puzzle on FB and realized that I have it, and that right in the middle they are taking a selfie.

Paradise Sunset,

This was my first Vermont Christmas Company puzzle, and I’m afraid I wasn’t impressed with the quality. There were a few false fits, but the worst problem was how loose the fit was and that pieces wouldn’t stay together. I must have done the bottom edge at least three times. I have no idea if this is typical of the Vermont Christmas Company, and I’m unlikely to find out as the puzzles are not available in Europe – this was lent to me by a friend who got it in the USA.

The image was more entertaining than I was expecting. I thought all the vegetation might be difficult, but it was easy to distinguish different types of vegetation, and there wasn’t much left of the palms after all sky pieces had been placed, so it ended up being pretty easy. One piece missing, although it’s hard to spot (in the second palm from the left).

Paradise Sunset by Dominic Davison, Vermont Christmas Company, 1000 pieces. Completed on March 25, 2025.

For the puzzle challenge this is #23, a loaned puzzle.

Campfire Romance Under the Stars, 2025-03-14

This was fun and easy! While this is a Schmidt puzzle, the same image is also available by Buffalo. For my puzzle challenge, this is the bonus challenge for March, which is the song Northern Lights (Revontulet in Finnish) by Anssi Kela, who is the first of this year’s artists that I’ve actually heard about. I still haven’t heard the song, though.

Campfire Romance Under the Stars by Lars Stewart, Schmidt, 1000 pieces. Completed on March 14, 2025.
