Collage – Egypt, 2019-05-27 & Ice Hockey

Two weeks ago I mentioned on the blog that the ice hockey world championship was about to start. Well, against all odds, Finland won! None of the big Finnish NHL stars wanted in, and 18 of 25 players were first-timers. Still, they managed to beat Sweden (21 NHL players), Russia (title favourites) and finally Canada in the final. In the end, hard work and team play beat star-studded opponents. Amazing!

Also, I managed to finish my Egyptian collage. The section below on the right, Tutankhamun in the middle and the two sections above and below him turned out to be pretty easy. For the remaining five I could sort the pieces into two piles, one for the two images with grey stone and one for the three remaining images with yellowish stone. It wasn’t all that easy, but still enjoyable from start to finish!

Collage – Egypt, In Progress

I started on a 2000-piece Egyptian collage by Grafika.

A scene from the underworld, where Anubis has placed a feather on one side of the scales and the heart of the deceased on the other. The feather needs to be heavier than the heart…

The death mask of Tutankhamun.

The pieces for these two sections were pretty easy to pull, but it’s going to get a lot harder from now on.

King Tut, 2009-01-24

One more Egyptian themed puzzle.

King Tut, Gibsons, 1000 pieces. Completed on January 24th, 2009.

I think you can see Howard Carter by the sarcophagus of Tutanchamum below on the right.

This is one of only two Gibsons puzzles I’ve completed, and in both cases, I found that pieces fit where they don’t belong. Otherwise, the quality was good, with thick pieces and great colours. The finish is waxy, which I don’t much like.

The Hunter, 2008-12-29

Here’s one that I missed when I was writing up the Egyptian fakes. A mosaic-style pharaoh (?) hunting.

The Hunter, Sunsout, 1000 pieces. Completed on December 29th, 2008.

This was the first Sunsout puzzle I ever did, and I was amazed at the irregular cut. This was the first time I’d seen that, and since Eurographics cuts are also somewhat irregular, I thought all American puzzles had irregular cuts instead of the “European” grid cut. While this is hardly wild, it still made the puzzle quite challenging for me.

Ancient Egypt, the Fakes, Vol 1

I like Ancient Egypt-themed puzzles. Some of them are pictures of actual Egyptian artwork, but most are of more recent production and only use ancient material as inspiration. Here are some of those.

nefertari
Nefertari, Jumbo 1000 pieces. Completed on October 17th, 2007.

Nefertari was the wife of Ramesses the Great. She is here surrounded by various gods of Ancient Egypt, right in front of her mouth is Osiris, and above Osiris is Isis, I think. Oh dear, I used to recognize all of these gods…

Legends of the Nile, White Mountain Puzzles, 1000 pieces. Completed on November 21st, 2011.

This is very similar to the first one, with the same images around the central picture. Different brand though.

Egyptian Tarot, Lo Scarabeo, 2000 pieces. Completed on March 31st, 2008.

This was great fun, and I still have the puzzle. The manufacturer, Lo Scarabeo, apparently make tarot (and other types of) cards, but I’ve not run into any other puzzles by them. I managed to spill a drink on this, but I dried it out as best I could and intend to do it again one day.
