To the Moon, 2024-04-13

I really loved this image of a child’s desk! The vinyl discs, the radio and the paper 3D-glasses puts this somewhere in the past, maybe the 80s (although the radio looks older). There’s a single puzzle piece below the baseball 😀 Unfortunately, there was no indication of an artist on the box. Quality was great, as usual with Clementoni. I think I’ll keep this one.

UPDATE: Hurrayforpuzzles told me that it’s an Aimee Stewart image. I guess I should have known.

To the Moon, Clementoni, 500 pieces. Completed on April 13, 2024.

Titanic White Star, 2024-04-15

Posting is late, but I worked on this on the actual anniversary of the shipwreck, which is the night between April 14 and 15. I’ve done at least five Titanic-themed puzzles over the years, but this was the last still in my to-do pile.

The quality was really good for a Master Pieces puzzle – they can be a bit hit and miss.

Titanic White Star, Master Pieces, 1000 pieces. Completed on April 15, 2024.

Donuts, 2024-04-12

This is a puzzle from the Ravensburger Circle of Colors series. I worked the puzzle from the inside out, and didn’t look at the box image, because it just didn’t seem helpful with this puzzle. The changing colours were enough of a guide what to look for next. I was expecting the edges to be a bit difficult, but with the excellent Ravensburger cut, that was quite easy, too. Very enjoyable puzzle!

Threaten by a Foreign Crunch, 2024-04-12

“Threaten by a Foreign Crunch” is what it says on the box, but I would translate the Finnish title as “Threatened by external danger” or “When an external danger threatens”. The duck certainly looks terrified.

Anyway, I enjoyed the puzzle a lot. I did the duck and the window first, and then I was afraid it would become difficult, but the cut was good and there was still enough differences in shade.

Threaten by a Foreign Crunch by Kaj Stenvall, Tactic, 1000 pieces. Completed on April 12, 2024.

This was the last of the Stenvall duck puzzles, there are 30 in all. I started collecting them in early 2019, and by the summer I already had 29 of the 30 puzzles. I had to wait until January 2021 before I got the last one. Now that I’ve completed them all I’m going to sell them to make room for new puzzles. Here they all are:

Thanks, But No Thanks, 2024-04-10

This is the only Kaj Stenvall painting I’ve seen with no Finnish title. Given the duck as a turkey, the flag on the wall reminiscent of the American flag, and the title, it seems to be a reference to the American holiday of Thanksgiving, but as usual, I have no idea what the message is supposed to be.

The puzzle itself was one of the easiest in the series, and I did it pretty much in one sitting. Unfortunately, two missing pieces. This is puzzle #29/30 in the series, and amazingly, these are the first missing pieces that I’ve had. Getting really close to the end of the duck puzzles now, just one to go!

From the Master’s Brush, 2024-04-10

This was a really fun to do, I enjoyed it a lot! You can’t see it in the photo, but the duck is holding a paint brush (the kind you use for art), and I think the everything except the duck and the floor he is standing on is a painting that he has just finished.

Egyptian, 2024-04-08

There is no information about the image on the box, so I don’t know if this is an actual ancient image or something more recent. As a puzzle, it was quite challenging, especially the white background and the hieroglyphs.

Egyptian, Bluebird, 1000 pieces. Completed on April 8, 2024.

Accidents and Emergencies, 2024-04-05

This was reasonably entertaining, although I have to say I’m not really a fan of this artist.

Accidents and Emergencies by François Ruyer, Piatnik, 1000 pieces. Completed on April 5, 2024.

For the puzzle challenge, this will be #1, human anatomy, mostly because of the x-rays:

This was the last item still left on the list for the 2024 puzzle challenge that I’ve now completed. I will probably continue doing the monthly bonus challenges.

Everything is Open, 2024-04-04

The first Stenvall puzzle with portrait orientation – I only realized, when I started on it. There is one more puzzle with this orientation in the series, and I think they might have been the last to be produced, because the pieces are thinner and the fit is not as good as with the other puzzles in the series. The less than stellar quality made it less enjoyable than usual, but still ok.

Everything is Open by Kaj Stenvall, Tactic, 1000 pieces. Completed on April 4, 2024.

The title is an exact translation of the Finnish title, although the word open is also used figuratively in the meaning “undecided”, and without context that would be my first interpretation of the Finnish sentence, but here, of course, we can see a literally open window in the image.

Behind the Scenes, 2024-04-02

I was expecting this to be difficult, but somehow it wasn’t. After I had started on some things, like the chair, the wigs and one of the gowns, it was somehow always easy to find pieces that fit in with what was already finished. Unfortunately, there were two pieces missing. I bought this new, and I doubt I managed to lose two pieces, especially as they are next to each other.

Behind the Scenes by Aimee Stewart, Ravensburger, 1000 pieces. Completed on April 2, 2024.

Anyway, there were lots of lovely details in the puzzle. I especially liked the colourful wigs:

The bonus challenge for April was a crown, and I could find at least six crowns or tiaras in the puzzle. Here are three of them:
