Epanouissement colorΓ©, 2019-10-21

I finally finished this! I knew the red bit was going to challenging, but I didn’t expect it to take almost two months πŸ™‚ The black doodles were not much help, but the quality was good, and there were also some differences in shade, with some areas brighter red than others.

There were over 500 red pieces, and when there were about 430 left I started using an app to keep count of how many pieces I’d placed. I’ve tried it before, but I always forgot to use it after a couple of pieces, but here it worked well, and it was good to see progress on the counter when somehow the puzzle looked the same … I used the counter until I had about 160 pieces left, after that it went so fast there was no point anymore.

I really like the image, too bad about the missing piece (near the top, in the black area).

BVB-Mini-Puzzle, 2019-10-20

Before the game yesterday I went into the fan shop at the stadium, and found a puzzle πŸ™‚ It’s an 80 piece mini puzzle, and the image shows the stadium shortly before kick-off. From the way people are holding their scarves high, I’m pretty sure they’re singing You’ll Never Walk Alone, which happens 7 minutes before kick-off. There was no brand beyond Borussia Dortmund, or any indication where it was manufactured, or by whom.

BVB-Mini-Puzzle, 80 pieces. Completed on October 20th, 2019.

The game was very exciting, and it ended in a 1-0 win for us. We had two goals disallowed, at least one of which should have stood, and the opponent probably should have had a penalty that wasn’t given, either.

Here’s a bonus photo with the tube the puzzle came in, with a filter from the BVB app (Heimsieg = Home Win).

1970s Sweet Memories, 2019-10-13

I actually gave this puzzle away when I moved in 2013, but then someone brought it into work (I don’t remember who got the puzzle in 2013, but it was obviously a colleague), and now I have it back πŸ™‚ I completed the puzzle for the first time in May 2012, and I posted about it in April this year. A rerun, I’m afraid πŸ™‚ It’s still complete, even after its travels. Also, it was still great fun working on it.

Art Nouveau, 2019-10-11

This was a new brand for me, Step Puzzle, and I was not too impressed. The pieces were quite thin, although not so thin that they wouldn’t stay flat. They were, however rather difficult to pick up, and the fit was quite loose. I feel like I should have enjoyed this more than I did. The image is nice, but there are so many posters, I think I would have preferred a smaller number. They are all in the same style, lots of billowing dresses and hair flying everywhere πŸ™‚ There’s no man in any of the posters, just one child and one cat, all the other figures are women.

This was my favourite. When you see the image from afar it looks like the woman is blindfolded.

The Balloon Seller, 2019-10-08

This was a really nice puzzle, very enjoyable. Also, a great idea to have text along the edges (It says Unicef + the name of the puzzle in various languages).Β  Again, great quality and very large pieces. I could get used to this.

There was also a poster, and it was as big as the puzzle πŸ™‚

In Appenzell, 2019-10-08

I had no idea that Unicef made puzzles, but I’ve seen some nice children’s puzzles from them lately. I got this in a lot with many other puzzles. The quality is good, the pieces enormous, and on the puzzle, it says “Printed in the Federal Republic of Germany”.Β  Unfortunately, one piece missing. Appenzell is in Switzerland.

I did the edges first, then I started from the middle.

Thank You!, 2019-10-03

You may remember that Heye’s first cartoon artist, Mordillo, died at the end of June, aged 86. Heye has now brought out a memorial puzzle.

IMG_20191003_195134

The date on the bag was 30.8., and I got this from my local puzzle store at the end of September. That’s pretty fast for a puzzle! Also, it’s made in Germany, although Heye moved production to eastern Europe years ago.

It’s a lovely puzzle and a great tribute to Mordillo. Definitely a keeper.

The pink shoes and the red nose came first, and the green background last.

Berlin Wall, 1989, 2019-10-01

Today is German Unity Day, commemorating German reunification in 1990. Happy Tag der Deutschen Einheit to my other country!

The puzzle shows the Berlin wall in 1989. On the western side, the wall was covered in graffiti, but I’m not entirely sure if these children are adding to them. It’s also possible that the photo was taken after the wall was opened (November 9th-10th, 1989), in which case the children may be trying to chip away some of the wall.Β  You can’t really tell what they’re doing, but you can tell their clothes are definitely from the ’80s:-)

The puzzle is an old MB, made in Holland, and of good quality. MB is not active on the European market anymore, sadly.

Colorful Cupcakes, 2019-09-29

I’ve been in Dortmund for the weekend but didn’t feel like working on Epanouissement colorΓ© right now, so I pulled out a fun and easy 500-piece puzzle instead. This was just what I needed, nice colours and not too challenging.
