New Exit-Puzzles

Apparently, the Ravensburger Exit-puzzle series is doing well, because there are two new puzzles, and of course, I bought them immediately. Wolves and an old cellar.

After I had completed my second puzzle in the series, The Witches Kitchen, I noticed that that post kept getting views consistently long after it was published. One reader also contacted me for help with the first puzzle in the series, The Observatory. I thought that most people searching for these puzzles probably wanted more detailed info than I wanted to put in my posts, so after the third and last puzzle from the first batch (The Temple Grounds), I set up a separate spoiler page for the series. If you use Chrome or Firefox you can safely head over to the page because the spoilers are hidden with an HTML-tag called details, but that does NOT work in Microsoft browsers Explorer or Edge. Safari and Opera should be OK, but I’ve not tried them out.

My spoiler page gets more traffic than any other content on my blog, including the home page. Of the posts for individual puzzles, The Witches Kitchen gets the most traffic (about 500 hits). I’ll be doing the new Exit puzzles soon, but I need to finish some of the ones I’m doing now first 🙂

Vampire Castle, 2019-07-14

This is the last of the Ravensburger Exit/Escape-series, for now. I’m hoping for more instalments next year 🙂 I saved the best for last, Vampire Castle is more colourful than the other puzzles in the series, and it was great fun to assemble. Hardly any trouble with edges either (I know I’m repeating myself here, but if you do one of these, do the edges last if you value your sanity).

Since the finished puzzle is different than the image on the box I won’t show it here.  There are further details and spoilers about the series on the dedicated page. There is also an individual spoiler page for this puzzle.

Vampire Castle, Ravensburger, 759 pieces. Completed on July 14th, 2019.

The backstory is that on holiday in Romania I stumble into an old castle and get locked in. Then I notice the resident vampire is waking up, and need to find a way to drive him back into his casket…

Submarine, 2019-06-28

Since the finished puzzle is different than the image on the box I won’t show it here.  There are further details and spoilers about the series on the dedicated page. There is also an individual spoiler page for this puzzle.

According to the backstory, I’m on a cruise, and in the harbour, an old man offers me a ride (on my own!) in his rickety old submarine. Um, I don’t think so, I’ve been on cruises, and the trick is to stay on your balcony reading and sipping a glass of port.

Submarine, Ravensburger, 759 pieces, Completed on June 28th, 2019.

Anyway, the puzzle was fun, as usual. I really like this series, although I’m quite bad at working out the mysteries. The pieces are big and the quality is great, but you should always do the edges last (if you don’t mind a spoiler I’ve explained why on the separate page).

Separate Exit/Escape-page. Also, Elvis.

So, I managed to put together the dedicated page for the Exit-series puzzles. If you use Chrome or Firefox you can safely head over to the page because the spoilers are hidden with an HTML-tag called details, but that does NOT work in Microsoft browsers Explorer or Edge. Safari and Opera should be OK, but I’ve not tried them out.

Bonus: I just saw this nightmare for sale. The colourful photomosaics are bad enough, but this is the stuff of insanity. Not buying, obviously 😀

The Temple Grounds, 2019-04-29

UPDATE: There are now further details and spoilers about the series on the dedicated page. There is also an individual spoiler page for this puzzle.

My third from the Ravensburger Exit-series (apparently also known as the Escape-series). This time I’ve fallen down a hole in some ancient temple grounds, and need to climb out.

Just the box again, as usual, no spoilers. Compared to the other puzzles in the series, I felt that there were relatively few changes from the image on the box. It’s also the most difficult of the three, with mostly green and brown.

Some colours from butterflies.

Somehow I wasn’t in the mood to work on the mysteries and used the online hints. Actually, the pieces that were part of the final solution were kind of obvious even while working on the puzzle. Also, the reality didn’t quite match the solution provided in the closed envelope – some of the printing looks to be wrong.

Again, there was a pile of these extra pieces. I’ve kept them for all the puzzles, and they could be useful for someone who wants to make replacements for lost pieces. That’s definitely not me, though 🙂

With the two previous Exit-puzzles, I’ve noticed that the old posts get some traffic, and I even had a question about one of the puzzles, so I’m considering doing a separate spoiler page for the series, with photos of the completed puzzles.
