United States Presidents, 2022-07-30

I borrowed this puzzle from work. We used to have a puzzle out for the customers in our library, but that was discontinued because of the pandemic, and it’s not started up again, but the puzzles are still there. Many of them were brought in by me, but this is from someone else.

While I usually love text in a puzzle, this was almost too much. There were definitely more pieces with text than without, which made the text less helpful. For a while, I consulted the box quite a lot, but this was still a fun puzzle, perhaps a bit more challenging than I expected.

United States Presidents, White Mountain Puzzles, 1000 pieces. Completed on July 30, 2022.

Many of the presidents are, unsurprisingly, unknown to me. I knew all the more recent ones, starting with FD Roosevelt, but only a few of the earlier ones. The last president on this puzzle is the younger Bush.

Best Sellers, 2019-10-25

This puzzle was brought into the library by someone, and I borrowed it to do at home. It still has all the pieces, in fact, there’s one piece extra. Book covers always make a great image for puzzling. Many of these books I know better as movies, like The Godfather, Gone With the Wind and Tarzan.

Best Sellers by Charlie Girard, White Mountain Puzzles. Completed on October 25th, 2019.

My favourite cover is The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. I’ve read the book, and the movie is brilliant as well, with Maggie Smith giving possibly the best performance of her life. And that’s saying something!

Great Shipwrecks, 2011-09-22

This was so much fun! In the middle the Titanic, and all around other, less well-known shipwrecks, all with a short description. I have a thing for shipwrecks (and air crashes), but there were many that I had never heard of before.

In the lower left-hand corner is the Swedish ship Vasa that’s already appeared on the blog.

I gave this away before I moved in 2013, but I now wish I had kept it.

Humphrey Bogart, 2018-09-13

For the next week or so I’m not expecting to get much puzzling done. I’m doing other fun things though, going to soccer games, visiting friends, singing Christmas carols in the stadium with 50 000 other fans, and baking cakes 🙂 I still have pictures of puzzles I’ve completed earlier, though, and I’ll be putting up some of those.

I got this one from a friend who did not enjoy it at all. She was like “Take this puzzle, I never want to see it again”. I quite enjoyed it 🙂 The face was the most difficult part, everwhere else there were plenty of clues, like text or the shade of the background colour changing.

I used to dislike doing close-ups of faces, but I seem to have gotten over that.

Ancient Egypt, the Fakes, Vol 1

I like Ancient Egypt-themed puzzles. Some of them are pictures of actual Egyptian artwork, but most are of more recent production and only use ancient material as inspiration. Here are some of those.

nefertari
Nefertari, Jumbo 1000 pieces. Completed on October 17th, 2007.

Nefertari was the wife of Ramesses the Great. She is here surrounded by various gods of Ancient Egypt, right in front of her mouth is Osiris, and above Osiris is Isis, I think. Oh dear, I used to recognize all of these gods…

This is very similar to the first one, with the same images around the central picture. Different brand though.

Egyptian Tarot, Lo Scarabeo, 2000 pieces. Completed on March 31st, 2008.

This was great fun, and I still have the puzzle. The manufacturer, Lo Scarabeo, apparently make tarot (and other types of) cards, but I’ve not run into any other puzzles by them. I managed to spill a drink on this, but I dried it out as best I could and intend to do it again one day.
